Appointments
Appointments are generally 30 minutes to an hour. Scheduling is done through the front desk and then with the counselor typically. There is a waitlist for counseling services that is served on a case-by-case basis.
Counseling can take place in person, via telehealth, or a combination of both.
Attendees
Appointment attendance varies based on the needs of the client and family. Parents often attend appointments with young children, and even older children and teens based on issues being discussed. If a person other than the client's legal guardian needs to be in the session the guardian must sign a release of information prior to the session granting permission.
Timeframe
While some clients are in counseling for relatively brief periods, some attend for years due to the chronic nature of the condition(s). Sessions are typically begin on a weekly basis then spaced out as progress is made.
Parents and guardians
Parents and guardians are important to the counseling process as the counselor will rely on their perspective outside counseling sessions. At times parents and guardians will be given specific items to work on between sessions, and/or behaviors, attitude shifts, and new skills of which to be aware and report on.
